A consultation between women parliamentarians and civil society on implementation of the Sri Lanka Parliamentary Women's Caucus: Country Action Plan was organised by the South Asian Regional Secretariat for Women Parliamentarians (SARSWP), CGST, BDI. This meeting followed the first meeting of the South Asian Regional Network of Women Parliamentarians which was held from February 25-27, 2013 in Colombo. The consultation meeting was supported by Promoting Democratic Institutions and Practices (PRODIP) program implemented by The Asia Foundation and its partner SUNY/CID and sponsored by USAID and UK aid. It was facilitated by the Women and Media Collective and held at the Hotel Hilton, on February 28, 2013, at Colombo.
The Country Action Plan recognises the commitments made to women's equality articulated in the Constitution of Sri Lanka, the Women's Charter, the National Human Rights Action Plan and the UN Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The Parliamentary Women's Caucus aim to guide and monitor the actions necessary to achieve the results set out in plan. This meeting was an opportunity for the Women' Caucus to receive feedback from civil society and secure their support in its implementation. The initiative was appreciated by civil society members and a commitment was made to continue to work together to finalize the plan and begin its implementation.
