A delegation of high officials from some prominent Western Australian Universities visited BRAC University on 1st June 2023. The visit focused on exploring collaboration opportunities between BRAC University and Western Australian universities. Officials from 5 reputed Western Australian Universities were present in this visit.
The delegation team was led by Professor Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Western Australia. It included Professor David Harrison, Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Notre Dame, Mr. Marko Rernes, Dean, International Business Operations, Edith Cowan University, Professor Abhijit Mukharjee, Dean, International, South Asia, Curtin University and Mr. Arjun Singh, Regional Manager, South Asia, Murdoch University.
The visiting delegates participated in a roundtable discussion which was also attended by Professor Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, PhD, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Mahboob Rahman, Treasurer, BRAC University, Dr. David Dowland, Registrar, BRAC University, Manzoor Hasan OBE, Executive Director, Center for Peace and Justice, BRAC University, Professor Arshad M. Chowdhury, Dean, BSRM School of Engineering, BRAC University, Professor Sabina Faiz Rashid, Dean, James P Grant School of Public Health, Professor Samia Huq, Dean School of General Education, Professor, Sadia Hamid Kazi, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Mujibul Haque, Associate Dean, BRAC Business School, and Professor Rubana Haque, University Proctor. The roundtable discussion highlighted various areas of collaboration, such as joint degrees offerings, student and faculty exchange programs, PhD opportunities for faculties, etc.
The roundtable discussion was followed by a panel session on ‘International Education for Impact, Innovation & Prosperity’ at the university auditorium. The discussion focused on range of opportunities including establishment of a ‘Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre’ at BRAC University and providing scholarships opportunities for BRAC University students.
“We want to establish a world class Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre and a Technology Innovation Centre at BRAC University. In this era of globalization, we cannot do it alone. That is why we need partnerships” said Professor Mahfuzul Aziz, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor. He mentioned that increasing global partnerships and student exchange activities will also raise quality of higher education in Bangladesh. He thanked the visiting delegates for visiting BRAC University and expected that this visit will facilitate further discussions for future collaborations.
Professor Amit Chakma shared his incredible life journey of coming from the hill tracts of Rangamati to becoming the Vice-Chancellor of University of Western Australia. He urged the students to understand their true potentials and grab the available opportunities to become extraordinary in their individual fields.
Deans, Program Directors, members of faculty and students of BRAC University were present in this panel discussion. The panelists answered questions from the students regarding study opportunities, scholarships, accommodation and other facilities in Western Australia.
