The Eighth Regional 3R Forum of Asia and the Pacific for clean water, air and land, took place in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India from 9-12 April 2018. During this forum the State of 3R in Asia and Pacific Report was launched. BRACU Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Economics and Social Sciences participated in the forum as a member of the Drafting Committee of the Report and author of the Bangladesh chapter on 3R.
Bangladesh government delegation included Mr. Md. Amir Hossain, Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Industry; Mr. Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environment and Forests; Mr. Md. Abdul Halim, Director General, Prime Minister’s Office; and Air Commodore Md. Shafiqul Alam, Chief Waste Management Officer DCC South. The Forum organized by the United Nations Centre for Regional Development, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan.
The 3R report is expected to guide and create a knowledge platform for the mission of zero waste for achieving clean water, clean air and clean land. The national governments and city mayors of the Asia Pacific countries and cities made commitment to implement the 3R strategies adopted by them and make use of 3R indicators for continuous assessment on the 3R progress in respective country and city.
