A commemoration was held in the BRACU auditorium on October 16, 2014 to celebrate and remember the life of Professor Piash Karim who passed away suddenly in the early hours of October 11. Arranged by ESS, which was the workplace of Professor Karim since 2007, the memorial was attended by his many students, colleagues and well-wishers from BRACU and beyond. Speakers at the event, who included past and recent students of Professor Karim, shared personal memories and recalled with great fondness the various mutual experiences with him which left lasting impressions on their lives. A selection of Professor Karim’s favourite Rabindra Sangeet was sung by ESS student Shemonty Monjary while Professor Shamsul Alam of ESS recited Dylan Thomas’s Do not go gentle into that good night.
