Ms. Sharmin Nahar Nipa, Lecturer, C3ER, BRAC University participated in the Expert Group Validation Workshop on "Identifying Data Sources of Environmental Statistics" for developing “Bangladesh Environmental Statistics Framework 2016-2030 from 21-22 December 2016. The workshop was organized by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) supported by United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) and General Economic Division, Ministry of Planning. The prime objective of the workshop was to assess the current situation of environmental statistics and to identify the data sources of environmental statistics. The other purpose of the program was to determine the impeding factors in the collection, compilation, and dissemination of environment statistics, disaster-related statistics, environmental-economic accounting with linkage to poverty and related statistics. After the inaugural session, six presentations were conducted by distinguished persons in different themes, i.e. Importance of Environmental Statistics and Natural Resource Accounts in light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Environmental Resources and their Use: Mineral Resources, Energy Resources; Environmental Conditions and Quality: Physical Conditions, Land Cover, Ecosystems and Biodiversity, Environmental Quality; Extreme Events, Disasters, Environmental Protection, Management and Engagement, etc. On the other hand, some panelists discussed the importance of the framework, the methodological and institutional challenges regarding the data collection, compilation and so on.
