Professor A. A. Z. Ahmad along with faculty members in physics of the MNS Department, namely, Dr. Md. Firoze M. Haque, Mr. Muhammad Lutfor Rahman and Mr. Mohammad Mosaddidur Rahman met with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Syed Saad Andaleed, Ph.D. to discuss various issues related to the physics courses taught by the MNS Department. Professor Ahmad pointed out that though MNS Department made provisions for tutorial classes for physics courses like PHY-101, PHY-111, and PHY-112 every semester, very few students attended these classes. About the dearth of students wanting to do major in physics or in applied physics and electronics, the meeting felt that visits to good schools (both Bangla and English media) should be made and necessity of doing studies in basic sciences including physics, APE should be emphasized. As far as research in physics and relevant fields was concerned, it was pointed out that unless post-graduate programs like M.S in physics, M.S in nuclear science and engineering could be started there was not much possibility of doing high quality research. These proposals are still awaiting the approval of UGC.
