Dr. Mohammad Faruk, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, BRAC University has presented a research paper at the “3rd International Symposium on Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development” (DRSD 2023). The two-day long symposium was held on 7-8 December 2013 and organized by the Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM) program of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Dr Faruk’s paper titled, “Pathways for facilitating voluntary compliance to safe building codes for disaster resilience: The case of the informal settlements in Bangladesh” presents findings of an international collaborative research between Australia, Bangladesh and Nepal. Funded by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) partners of the research were BRAC University and Dhaka University from Bangladesh, Newcastle University of Australia, and Tri Bhuban University of Nepal.
DRSD is a bi-annual platform for experts, practitioners, policymakers, and students from Asia Pacific and beyond to present a discourse on improving development practices to reduce long-term complex risks and promote equitable sustainability. The symposium sponsors include AIT, ADPC, UKRI, GCRF, Living Deltas Hub, SAADRI, and many others. It is worth mentioning here that Dr Mohammad Faruk is currently involved in the Living Deltas Hub, international collaborative research funded by UKRI and GCRF.
