He observed that over the past 30 years or so interest in pursuing education and research in physics has dwindled due to various reasons. He emphasized on the role of Bangladesh Physical Society to address this very pertinent issue and hoped that physics would soon regain its rightful place in Bangladesh. Dr. Dilip Kumar Saha, General Secretary, BPS gave the vote of thanks.
About 300 physicists including a good number of students attended the Inaugural Ceremony. There were in total fourteen technical sessions covering the whole gamut of physics education and research. The topics covered were materials science, environmental science and meteorology, theoretical physics, electronics, radiation and health physics, medical and biophysics, nuclear power, renewable energy, physics education etc.
Over 200 papers including posters were presented in the Conference. Prof. A. A. Z. Ahmad chaired a technical session entitled ‘Theoretical Physics’ Professor G. M. Bhuiyan of the Department of Physics, University of Dhaka presented an invited talk titled “Casimir Effects and Bose Condensation of an Important Bose Gas: d-dimensional Approach”.
