A four-day training has been conducted for the Youth Volunteers under the project “Capacity Building on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for City Dwellers in Dhaka North City Corporation of Bangladesh” implemented by SEEDS Asia and PPDM, BRAC University. Project Officer of SEEDS Asia conducted her session on preparedness measures at household for disaster. Mr. Amirul Islam, Station Officer, Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) conducted the session with the basic of fire, including what causes a fire, different types of fire, prevention measures etc.
A brief description of the sessions took place in the training is presented below:
Day 1 of the training started with the opening session where a brief about the training was shared and an opening speech delivered by PPDM, CDP and SEEDS Asia representative.
Day 2 started with a recap session from the previous day and participants were asked to share what they learned the previous day. National frameworks such as National Disaster Management Act, Policy, Plan and Standing Order on Disaster and International Framework such as Sendai Framework, Sustainable Development Goals have been shared with the participants.
The third day of the training was fully dedicated for town watching, a participatory process widely used worldwide for community-based risk and resource assessment with action planning. Muhammad Ferdaus, Coordinator, PPDM Mr. Nazmul Nabid, Program Officer, SEEDS Asia in collaboration has started the session with town watch while they explained the objective, required logistics and steps to follow for conducting a town watching. Day 4: The day was focused on various disaster response activities including first aid, search and rescue, debris management, diabody management, food, drinking water and relief distribution.
