With over 30 years of academic and research experience, Professor Mallick brings a wealth of knowledge in environmental issues in sustainable architectural design, climate change and disaster management
Earlier, his lecture at Harvard, titled "Contemporary Architecture in Bangladesh: Sources and the Way Beyond," showcased his insights into the evolution of modern architecture in Bangladesh which was moderated by Professor Rahul Mehrotra of Harvard GSD. The discussion delved into the challenges faced by Bangladeshi architects amid population growth and climate-induced adversities.
Professor Mallick's extensive background includes pioneering research and publication on thermal comfort in Bangladesh, founding the Department of Architecture at Brac University, and leading projects in disaster-resilient housing.
During the Fall 2023 semester at GSD, Professor Mallick is teaching a studio course “Permanence in Transition” on the Rohingya Refugee Camps in Bangladesh. His students from Harvard GSD took part on a field trip to the camps in October 2023, which provided them with firsthand experiences to inform their design projects.
He is also teaching a seminar course titled “Building Resilient Communities” which deals with resilience building in communities at environmental risk. His appointment as a Visiting Professor at Harvard GSD further cements his influence in the global architectural discourse. This recognition not only honors Professor Mallick but also showcases the global recognition of Bangladesh's pedagogical capabilities. SoAD, Brac University celebrates and congratulates Professor Mallick on this significant achievement and eagerly anticipates the transformative impact of his contributions to global architectural teaching.
