Professor Rahim B. Talukdar Ph.D. has joined BRAC Business School (BBS) as Adviser (with Dean's status) on June 7, 2015.
Professor Dr. Rahim B. Talukdar has long years of academic and administrative experience for over four decades. He was the Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Dhaka from May 2006 to July 2010. He was also the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (2003-2006) and Vice Chancellor- in-charge of Viqarunnissa University (2001-2003). He was Professor and Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. Professor Talukdar had been at the Institute of Business Administration since its inception in 1966. He is one of the very senior Professors of the Institute. Professor Talukdar did his B.Com. (Hons.) and M.Com from University of Dhaka, MBA from Indiana University, USA, and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. He was also an Adjunct Professor of the University of North Carolina, USA.
Professor Talukdar joined the then Department of Commerce, now Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka in 1964 as a Lecturer. He went to Indiana University, USA on a Ford Foundation Scholarship in 1966 and completed his MBA in 1968. Subsequently he got another Ford Foundation Scholarship and did the Doctoral work at the University of North Carolina, USA in 1983. He was also trained at the International Trade Centre, Geneva.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Talukdar has been involved in research, consulting as well as administrative activities. His research and consulting interests are in the areas of management, economics and finance both for profit and not-for-profit organizations. He has worked in projects sponsored by the government, non-government organizations, local corporate bodies, multinationals, chambers and trade bodies, international organizations, donor agencies, etc. These include the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, UNFPA, APO, USAID, DIFID, GTZ, CIDA and others.
As the Director of the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, Dr. Talukdar was responsible for the efficient running of the Institute. In addition, he also managed the development work for the physical expansion and other capacity building activities for the Institute with World Bank, CIDA, UNFA and other sources of funding. He was also the Chairman, Centre for Population Management and Research at the Institute when management development issues in not-for-profit sector, particularly in health and population were addressed under his direct participation and leadership. Professor Talukdar was the first Provost of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University.
Professor Talukdar is also involved in social service activities. He is a Past President of Rotary Club of Dhaka Central.
As the Vice Chancellor of Universities, Professor Talukdar gave overallĀ leadership for the development of the Universities in the private sector as center of excellence for higher education in the country. He is now Chairman of the Executive Committee, Institute of Management Consultants, and President of CDCS Knowledge Institute.
