A Discussion Forum on Design in the Public Realm took place on 26th September, 2018 with eminent architects and academics Zainab Faruqui Ali, Salauddin Ahmed, Nurur Rahman Khan and Marina Tabassum, moderated by Kazi Khaleed Ashraf as part of the academic program “Learning from the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.”

The public realm is defined differently by people from different disciplines. In this context, Zainab Faruqui Ali, Professor and Chairperson at the Department of Architecture, BRAC University, briefly presented her ideas and examples regarding the matter. She talked about the different kind of public spaces existing all over the world at the Forum on Design in the Public Realm. In discussing how public spaces can relate or rather communicate with people, several ideas came into discussion, including the condescending norm of establishing boundaries into the public realm.
