1. An interview article was published in the daily “Share Biz”, a Bengali newspaper. The article dealt with various issues concerning economic development of Bangladesh such as growth of GDP, Government revenues, implementation of Annual Development Program and the prevailing situation in the financial sectors.

সাবেক তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের অর্থ ও পরিকল্পনা উপদেষ্টা। বর্তমানে ব্র্যাক ইউনিভার্সিটির ভিজিটিং প্রফেসর। দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশন বিএসইসির চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবেও। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে অর্থনীতিতে স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রি অর্জনের পর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের উইলিয়ামস কলেজ থেকে উন্নয়ন অর্থনীতিতেও স্নাতকোত্তর সম্পন্ন করেন। পিএইচডি করেছেন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বোস্টন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে। ১৯৬২ সালে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অর্থনীতি বিভাগে শিক্ষকতার মাধ্যমে কর্মজীবন শুরু। ১৯৬৪ সালে যোগ দেন সিভিল সার্ভিস অব পাকিস্তানে (সিএসপি)। দেশের অর্থনীতির বর্তমান হালচাল, আসন্ন ২০১৮-১৯ অর্থবছরের বাজেটের ভাবনা, জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধি, সরকারের রাজস্ব, এডিপি বাস্তবায়ন, ব্যাংক ও আর্থিক খাতসহ নানা বিষয়ে সম্প্রতি কথা বলেছেন শেয়ার বিজের সঙ্গে।
2. An interview article was published The Bengali Daily newspaper “Jugantor”. The article dealt with the implementability of the proposed budget for FY 2018-19 in terms of expenditure as well as revenue collection, legitimacy of 7.8% target for GDP growth, the need for enhancing creating business friendly environment to increase private sector investment and enhancement of administrative capacity for ensuring full implementation of Annual Development Program in time.
3. An interview article was published in The Bengali Daily newspaper “Somokal”. The article dealt with the likely economic implications of the recent announcement by Bangladesh Bankers’ Association (BAB) that the banks would bring down the lending interest rate to 9%.
4. An article on the proposed FY’19 budget was published on 27th June, 2018 in Market Pulse, a monthly economic journal issued by LankaBangla Securities. The article dealt with the implications of the budget on growth of GDP, reduction of income inequality and alleviation of poverty in the light of implementation capacity of the administrative machinery in respect to both expenditure and revenue rising.
Other Activities
02 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Mr. GM Quader, former Commerce Minister participated in a TV talk-show broadcast by News24 Channel. The discussions dealt with various issues which deserve priority attention in the forthcoming budget FY’19 supported by adequate financial allocation.
04 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam delivered a lecture at a National Defense College training session. The trainees were officers of the level of Joint Secretaries/ Brigadiers from Bangladesh and of equivalent rank from a number of other countries. The topic of the lecture was “Challenges and Management of National Economy: Bangladesh Perspective”. The lecture reviewed the performance of Bangladesh in terms of growth of GDP, control of inflation and poverty alleviation. The factors underline the achievements in all these areas as well as the challenges to further progress were analyzed.
05 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was the guest of honor at a dialogue on “Financing for SDGs Implementation in Asia-Pacific Region” organized jointly by the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The other important guests included Mr. Md. Abdul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Kazi Shofiqul Azam, Secretary of Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance. Mr. Vatcharin Sirimaneetham of UNESCAP made the keynote presentation. Professor Mustafizur Rahman. Distinguished Fellow, CPD was the Lead discussant. The discussions explored various options for financing the implementation of SDG’s with particular reference of Bangladesh. The need for greater efforts to mobilize domestic resources in the backdrop of the unlikelihood of any major boost in official external assistance was emphasized.
06 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Ms. Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, Center for Policy Dialogue participated in a talk show broadcast by NTV. The subject matter of the discussions was the upcoming budget for FY2018-19.
07 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was the only discussant in a number of TV talk shows on various aspects of the proposed FY’18-19 budget. The channels were DBC, ETV, Channel 71 and Jamuna TV.
08 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Dr Ahsan Mansur, an Executive Director, Policy Research Institute participated in a discussion on the FY’18-19 budget jointly organized by South –Asian Network for Economic Modeling (SANEM) and TV channel RTV.
09 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was the only discussant at a TV talk show on FY’18-19 budget broadcast by Bangla Vision.
09 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Dr Akbar Ali Khan participated in a TV talk show on the FY’18-19 budget broadcast by ATN Bangla.
10 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Mr. Faroque Ahmed Siddique, Former Chairman of Bangladesh Security & Exchange Commission participated in a TV talk show broadcast by NTV. The discussions dealt with various issues relating to the proposed budget for FY’19 with particular attention to its implication for the capital market.
10 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was the only participant in a TV talk show on FY’18-19 budget broadcast by Jamuna TV. A number of issues such as the unrealistic nature of the proposed expenditure, revenue target, assumption with regard to growth of GDP,
private investment, implementation Annual Development Program etc. were discussed.
28 June: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Mr. Manzur Ahmed, Advisor, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) participated in a TV talk show broadcast by DBC channel. The subject matter of the discussion was the proposed FY’19 budget with particular attention to private sector investment.
