A seminar entitled “Towards Raw Data” was held at BRAC University, GDLN Conference Room on 21 July, 2016. The seminar was an interactive session between course coordinators and managing team and around thirty senior students of BRAC University from microbiology and biotechnology programme. Dr. Aparna Islam, Dr. Mahboob Hossain and MS. Shahana Chowdhury were the key speakers of this informative session. They informed the participants about the lab facilities available at the MNS Department and how students could utilize them to increase their hands on experience. The session remained informal where students asked questions of their interest in different fields of microbiology and biotechnology and how to execute their ideas maintaining the University protocol. During the session Dr. Aparna Islam emphasized on thesis work and other plant biotechnology based topics, while Dr. Mahboob Hossain emphasized on topics related to microorganisms. The last part of the conference included protocols for lab work safety which was explained by Ms. Shahana Chowdhury, who emphasized that for carrying out all experiments we needed to work in synchronization and skillfully with careful precautions. Towards the end of the seminar the Department Chair, Professor A. A. Z. Ahmad told the students who were going to start theses in the upcoming days by exploring innovative ideas and to stay up-to-date about general knowledge that would help them build confidence and more acceptances in the international arena. The students who attended this seminar went home with joyful hearts and considered themselves lucky to have such guidance from experienced hands and dream to open new avenues in the field of biotechnology and microbiology.
