Professor Madhabi Chatterji, Associate Professor of Measurement, Evaluation and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and Co-Director of the Assessment and Evaluation Research Initiative of the Campaign for Educational Equality at Teachers College gave a seminar on assessment of learning in primary education on February 11, 2007 at BU-IED. She spoke about her experimental work in "Proximal Assessment of Learning Diagnosis" as a tool for better teaching-learning and reducing achievement gap of students. She noted the importance of professional and institutional capacity development and the need for avoiding some of the pitfalls of national assessment in USA and UK as Bangladesh begins to introduce a public examination at the end of the primary stage. Over 35 people from Directorate of Primary Education, Second Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP II) and education NGOs attended the seminar.
