On August 19, 2015, BIL faculty members attended the sixth session of monthly reading circle, Journal Club held in the Writing Centre. The two readers, Ms. Naznin Zafar and Ms. Taslima Alam shared the article “Students’ Perception on the Use of Humor in Teaching of English as a Second Language in Nigeria”, followed by a dynamic discussion session. In the article, the writers talked about using elements of humour in English language classrooms which can enliven the students and engage them more positively in activities. The participants in both the session reflected on the idea of the article by sharing their own opinions and experiences in classrooms. The session concluded on the note that humour, though a fine tool of student engagement, should be used in moderation and spontaneously.
