It was a big opportunity for Counseling Unit member to attend an “Expert workshop: drafting a curriculum for counselor in Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Gender (SRHRG)” Nijmegen, Netherlands September 12-19, 2014. One member from counseling unit participated in the workshop. Along with BRAC University, the other participants were from IED, UCEP and RHSTEP, total 20 participants’ enthusiastic presents made the learning environment very friendly and interactive.
Workshop was to construct a draft culturally sensitive curriculum for the profession of counselor in SRHRG, where they focused on three kinds of counselors/counseling expertise. Firstly, the focus was on needed skills for trainers who work at schools or in communities and finally, knowledge about various kinds of prevention programs. To become the confident counselors for SRHRG problems what type of skills are needed also mentioned in the program. Moreover clinical skills and knowledge to work with more serious problems with individual clients and their families is also addressed.
It is a remarkable learning for counselor to get the opportunity to receive the knowledge about SRHRG program through my participation.
