BRAC University (BRACU) organised the 5th edition of its musical programme “Bangla Gaaner Bhabna O Pothchola” (thoughts and transition of Bangla songs) at its Mohakhali campus auditorium on 09 May 2018.
The theme this time was “Prio Shikkhoker Prio Gaan” (favourite teacher’s favourite song), with students rendering favorites of Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, BRACU Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, PhD and BRACU Department of English and Humanities Chairperson Professor Firdous Azim.
The program started with a song of Rabindranath Tagore, Tomari Name Nayan Melinu in chorus.
It is very pleasing to see students, despite studying in different subjects, being familiar with Bangla culture, said Professor (Emeritus) Anisuzzaman.
Kaberi Nodi Jole, Ami Jhorer Kache Rekhe Gelam, Gahana Kusum Kunja Majhe and other songs were performed. Students staged a drama based on Tagore’s poem Nishkriti.
The event saw a sitar recital of Professor Andaleeb. Nazrul sangeet artist Sadia Afrin Mallik performed a song as well.
The musical programme is held at the start of every semester aiming to disseminate the essence of the heritage, knowledge and legacy of Bangla songs among young generations.
Associate Professor Sharmind Neelotpol PhD of the Department of Pharmacy hosted the event while Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Ansar Ahmed PhD along with other senior officials were present.
