A three-day "Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh 2021” was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka from 25-27 February, 2021. Brac University was one of the proud sponsors of this mega event. The Olympiad was organized with support from ICT Division of the Bangladesh government. The Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh is a platform for university students to solve real-world problems with decentralized applications, built with blockchain or distributed ledger technology. The purpose of this event is to nurture the next generation of blockchain professionals from Bangladesh. State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the Olympiad.
Professor Sang H Lee, Dean of Brac Business School of Brac University, attended the Olympiad as a panelist in a seminar titled "Transforming RegTech" on the second day of the event. Professor Lee shared his valuable thoughts on the topic, highlighting the importance of keeping the human element in mind while developing and managing such a new generation technology like RegTech.
More than 100 teams from 26 universities participated in this Olympiad. A total of 40 teams were selected for the final round. Two teams from Brac University were selected for the final round. Team “Kagojer Nouka” of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) emerged as the winner of “Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury Championship Award” while team “Masala Dosa” of the University of Dhaka won the silver award and “TrioChain” of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) bagged the bronze. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak handed out the awards to the winning teams at the prize distribution ceremony.
