Professor Naiyyum Choudhury along with seven of his colleagues from the biotechnology program namely Dr. Aparna Islam, Ms. Jebunessa Chowdhury, Ms. Zubaida Marufe Islam, Ms Namista Islam, Ms Shahana Chowdhury, Ms. Anamika Datta and Mr. Iftekhar Mahmood Chowdhury attended the above-mentioned stakeholder workshop. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Environment (DoE), GOB and South Asia Biosafety Program (SABP). Professor Naiyyum Choudhury chaired the inaugural function and made valuable comments on the importance of the guidelines document. Mr. Solaiman Haider, Deputy Director, DoE talked about the journey for developing the “Guidelines for the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of Genetically Engineered Plants”. The scientific session was moderated by Professor Imdadul Hoque, Country Coordinator. The scientific session accepted the final draft of the document with some modification. It was attended by a large number of scientists, academicians and policy makers. In the closing session Dr. Andrew F. Roberts, Deputy Director, Center for Environmental Risk Assessment (CERA) thanked all the participants for their active involvement in making the workshop a success.
