BRAC University’s operations department and Medical Center organized a daylong health awareness and safety training on the university’s premises on 12 August, 2023 for people employed to drive the university’s vehicles, including those of the Student Transport Service. Participated by 36 drivers, the training also aimed at disseminating knowledge on safe driving, first aid and managing everyday stress.
Anni Baroi, a psychosocial counselor of the Counselling Unit of BRAC University, demonstrated some physical exercises and meditation skills. “It is very important to perform some physical and mental exercises to live a healthy life even though we remain very busy in our daily lives,” she said.
Dr. Salina Akter Banu, Senior Medical Consultant at BRAC University, showed how to use different first aid tools and emphasized on the importance of keeping those in vehicles. BRAC University has provided necessary first aid kits in all its vehicles and the Medical Center conducts regular checks on the health condition of every driver, she said.
A consultant of the training, Dr. Ahmed Raihan Sharif, also Program Coordinator of Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network’s Country Office in Bangladesh, spoke about contagious and non-contagious diseases. He also spoke on the causes of road accidents and ways to apply safety measures to prevent them.
The training’s chief guest Dr. David Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, Tahsina Rahman, Joint Direction, Student Life, Md Nurul Islam Bulbul, Joint Director and Md Lutfor Rahman, Assistant Director, Operations, also addressed the event.
