The Biotechnology Program of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS), School of Data and Sciences, BRAC University has organized the Fresher’s Orientation program for the first-year B.Sc. Biotechnology students on 14th of June 2023 at UB2 Auditorium, BRAC University. M.Sc. first year Biotechnology students also participated in this event. Approximately 150 biotech freshers and esteemed faculty members from the Biotechnology Program and the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS) attended in this program.
The objective of the program was to welcome new students and introduce them to university facilities, faculty members, the academic system and the rules and regulations.
The event was a spectacular showcase of academic fervor and the promise of a vibrant future in biotechnology. It featured a series of insightful speeches and cultural performances, setting the stage for the new students' exciting journey.
The event was inaugurated by the Director of the Biotechnology program Dr. Munima Haque, Associate Professor with her formal speech on the overview of the program of Biotechnology, BRAC University.
Honorable Dean of the School of Data and Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mahbubul Alam Majumdar showed a realistic view of biotechnology from the Bangladeshi aspect.
Assistant Professor Dr. Jebunnesa Chowdhury, and Associate Professor of the Biotechnology Program, Dr. Mahdi Moosa, also greeted the new students with words of encouragement and guidance and motivated the students to harness their true potential.
The event screened an introductory video of BRAC University and Biotechnology Program that inspired the students a lot. This was followed by a talk by Biotech Alumni, Tahani Tabassum, a Research Assistant at icddr,b and also a M.Sc. Biotechnology program graduate student here at BRAC University, who shared the experiences, challenges, and future scope and opportunities in the biotechnology.
One of the newly enrolled students shared their feelings, saying, "This program was so motivating and captivating that now they feel like a part of the biotech family, and they are incredibly proud to be here". Nafin Rahman, the President of the BRAC University Society for Biotechnology, shared his extended a warm welcome to the newcomers.
The final part of the event was mediated by Dr. A F M Yusuf Haider, Professor and Chairperson, MNS Department. He welcomed the students and suggested utilizing the academic life of the University through hard perseverance and uplifted the students to reach out whenever they needed.
The event also showcased the rich cultural diversity of the student body. Around 40 students participated in entertaining the crowd with a variety of performances. Foreign performers added an international flavor to the event, making it a true celebration of diversity and inclusivity.
The orientation program with its blend of academia, culture, and alumni wisdom set the stage for an inspiring and promising journey for the Fall 2023 biotechnology freshers. Moreover, it reinforced the idea that they are not just students but members of a vibrant, supportive, and diverse community as they embark on their academic adventure at our Biotechnology program at BRAC University.
