The Cell for Adaptation, Resilience, Security, and Humanitarian Assistance (CARSHA) of the Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management (PPDM) of the Department of Disaster Management of the School of Architecture and Design arranged a public lecture on November 04, 2023.
Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed delivered a lecture on his recent research works and the title of the lecture was Post-disaster Housing Reconstruction in the Asia-Pacific. Dr. Ahmed fhas been awarded the CARSHA Research Fellowship this year. Along with Dr. Fuad Hassan Mallick and Dr. Rajib Shaw, Dr. Ahmed is involved as an advisor to CARSHA.
Dr. Ahmed is an Associate Professor and previous Program Convenor of the Master of Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development, University of Newcastle, Australia. He teaches policy and social aspects of disaster risk reduction, resilience of the built environment, and sustainable development. His research interests include post-disaster housing, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and urbanization in the Asia-Pacific.
Dr. Ahmed has written several books and many peer-reviewed publications, and he engages in various research and evaluation projects relating to disaster resilience. He is the lead author of the recent book "Disaster Resilience in South Asia: Tackling the Odds in the Sub-Continental Fringes" (Routledge, UK, 2020). Dr. Ahmed completed his PhD from Oxford Brookes University, UK; Master of Science in Architecture Studies, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA; and Bachelor of Architecture (hons.), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India.
The lecture was moderated by Mr. Muhammad Ferdaus, Director, Human Security and Humanitarian Assistance of CARSHA. The postgraduate students and alumni of PPDM attended the lecture and participated in the question-answer session.
