On 11 October 2023, a historic milestone was achieved as the first ever class was conducted at the permanent campus of BRAC University (BRACU). Though it was a trial class before the official commencement of academic program at the new campus, it marks a significant way forward as the university draws up its transition to its permanent home.
Students from the course ARC452: Design with the Environment of the Department of Architecture, BRACU have had the privilege of attending the first class at the permanent campus led by Professor Zainab Faruqui Ali.
Aligned with the ethos of cutting-edge campus, the course conducted by Professor Zainab Faruqui Ali discussed about the low energy high comfort concept of the buildings of the tropical climate. Co-faculty Emmat Ara Khanam took some spot measurements of temperature, relative humidity and airflow of the indoor and the outdoor.
The BRAC University permanent campus, crafted by WOHA Architects, Singapore is designed to breathe with breezeways, porous facades, green terraces and green facades, and creates an avenue for a sustainable inner-city campus with a hybrid mechanical cooling system enhanced by natural ventilation. Climate engineers Dr. Kessling, and Dr. Martin of Transsolar, Germany conducted an assessment of temperature, relative humidity, air quality, natural ventilation and mechanical cooling system with instruments during the class session. At the end of the class, they explained their finding to the students.
