Taraji Sheikh, a final-year student at the School of Law of BRAC University, has been selected to serve as the first Bangladeshi Student Director on the Board of Directors of International Law Students Association (ILSA). The ILSA is a non-profit association of students and lawyers enabling the scope to study, research and network through academic conferences, publications and coordination of student organizations.
It is widely known for the administration of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which draws participants from 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. Every year, the ILSA’s Board of Directors selects three law students from around the world as Student Directors to communicate with schools in their region to help improve and increase participation in the Jessup competition and other ILSA programs.
Taraji was a member of a BRAC University team that participated in the 2022 Jessup competition. She bagged the Best Mooter (Overall) Award in the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds.
Commenting on her appointment made on April 8, Taraji said she was committed to making a lasting impact on the future of international legal education around the world, especially South Asia.
