The Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary (RATB) for students of architecture of BRAC University is awarded by eminent architect Md. Rafiq Azam, principal of Shatotto - Architecture for Green Living. The bursary aspires to enhance student’s active learning process of local culture, heritage, climate, context and materials through travelling across Bangladesh and also overseas. The purpose is to inspire and motivate students for a deeper understanding of architecture. The bursary is awarded in the form of travel costs and subsistence allowance.
An event for celebrating RATB titled “Learning through Travelling” was held on 20September 2014 at the BRAC University Auditorium. The aim of the program was to share the experiences of RATB winners from BRACU and Australia. In this ceremony RATB winner 2013 received his certificate too. Previous winners Mahjabin Khan (2011), Safa Binte Safiullah (2012) and Turjoy Chowdhury (2013) shared their travelling experiences of Bhutan, India and Turkey respectively. Australian students Patrick Jacob Bullen and Falix Saw shared their travelling experiences of Bangladesh.
Professor Fuad Hassan Mallick, pro-vice chancellor and Chairperson of the Department of Architecture, BRACU and architect Md. Rafiq Azam conducted a short discussion at the end of the program.
