The Department of Pharmacy, BRAC University with the help of BUPS, has organized a seminar on 'Pharmaceutical Marketing: Current Perspective in Bangladesh'. Mr. M Mosaddek Hossain, Managing Director, UniMed & UniHealth Manufacturers Limited was the speaker of the seminar.
Mr Hossain obtained his Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Pharmacy from the Dhaka University. He started his career with the marketing team of Fisons Bangladesh Limited. Later he joined the ICI Bangladesh manufacturers Limited (ICI BML) as business manager and became a shareholder and Executive Director when the company changed to Advanced Chemical Industries (ACI) Limited, he continued his career at ACI Limited till 1995. He is the member of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Oushad Shilpa Samite (BOSS) and recently he has been selected as the member of the Drug Control Committee (DCC). He is also a member of the Institute of Foods Technologist of USA since 1997. Mr. Hossain is a successful entrepreneur and widely known in the healthcare sector.
The pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh is one of the most developed high-tech sectors within the country's economy. It is the second largest industry in Bangladesh which provides almost the total medicinal requirement of the local market and is also exporting medicines to global markets, including the European market. The credit for such a successful industry goes to the pharmaceutical professionals, as their professional knowledge, thoughts and innovative idea are the key factors for this development. Therefore, the objective of this seminar was to provide practical knowledge about the current perspective of pharmaceutical marketing in Bangladesh to the pharmacy students. This will enhance their knowledge on the subject and will help them to take leading roles in the pharmaceutical industry.
Mr. Imon Rahman, Lecturer of Department of Pharmacy, BRAC University was the facilitator of the seminar. The presence of the Vice Chancellor, Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb and Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, Chairperson, Department of Pharmacy, BRACU was highly appreciated. All faculty members and students were present at the seminar and the seminar ended with a ‘Question and Answer’ session. Dr. Eva Rahman Kabir, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy concluded the seminar with a vote of thanks to the Vice Chancellor for his graceful presence. She was also thankful to the speaker, university authority, all faculty members, staffs and students who made the seminar a ‘success’.
