This meeting discussed regional priorities of the Network concerning women's political participation, violence against women (VAW), and implementation of all UNSC Conventions related to VAW. The three-day long meeting brought together more than twenty Women Parliamentarians from six countries - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Honourable Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Sumedha Jayasena graced the meeting with her presence. Dhammika Dassanayake, Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka gave a special address at the opening session. The MP from Bangladesh, Honourable Rasheda Begum Hira, was elected as one of the spokespersons of the Network on violence against women. The honourable MP focal points from the South Asian region also adopted the Colombo Declaration on Women's Political Participation. The Declaration reflects the consensus of the South Asian Regional Network of Women Parliamentarians on the importance of further strengthening women's political participation and collaboration, both within countries and across countries in the South Asia region.
