The Department of Pharmacy, BRAC University had an amazing opportunity to visit the Manufacturing Plant of Sanofi Bangladesh Limited located at Tongi on Sunday, 21st December 2014. A group of 37 students along with 6 faculty made a visit to Sanofi, one of the leading multinational pharmaceutical companies in the world. Entering the gates of Sanofi Bangladesh Limited was like opening a book of pharmaceutical technology where each and every manufacturing unit is ideally designed and strategically located for maintaining quality. Sanofi products are produced by maintaining GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standard and storage procedure. Sensitive and high-tech products like vaccines, insulin and chemotherapeutic drugs are imported directly from France, USA, UK and Germany.
The Department of Pharmacy was cordially welcomed by Md. Muin Uddin Mazumder, Director, Industrial Affairs and his coworkers. They segregated the students into two groups and they were shown the antibiotic and non antibiotic manufacturing units along with the warehouses and quality control units. It not only gave the students an overview on how pharmaceutical company carry out its daily work of producing different dosage forms available in the market but also provides them an insight on how in future they will have to put themselves into the shoes of these efficient employees and carry out their assigned responsibilities of a pharmacist.
Last but not least the session ended with a sumptuous lunch and a Question/Answers session. To conclude, the industrial visit was a thorough learning experience where the students could learn beyond books and also could relate their theoretical knowledge with practical implementation.
