At 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006, fifty-two members of the BU-IED staff gathered at the conference room and pledged that " each one, personally and professionally, will do everything possible to support the achievement of MDG ( Millennium Development Goals)." Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Director of BU-IED, spoke briefly about the overarching poverty reduction aim and the two education related components of MDG. This was an expression of solidarity with the worldwide campaign being led by the Global Campaign Against Poverty ( GCAP), a coalition of NGOS across the world and the PFM -Public Forum for Millennium Development Goals (MDG), which is the Bangladesh counterpart of GCAP. Millions of people all over the world stood for five minutes on 16th October to express symbolic solidarity with the fight against poverty and achievement of MDG.
