Since its launch in June 2000, the GDLN http://www.gdln.org (A World Bank initiative) partnership has grown by leaps and bounds. Today the network includes more than 120 affiliated learning centers in some 80 countries around the world. Offering a combination of learning services and technologies, GDLN Affiliates enable individuals, teams, and organizations working in development around the world to communicate, share knowledge, and learn in a timely and cost-effective manner, in Bangladesh BRAC University is the one and only affiliate of GDLN.
Ali Salman GDLN Coordinator of BRAC University was selected by the World Bank to participate in the Future of GDLN Workshop in Berlin Germany from 24th to 25th November 2007. 10 Person from 6 global region of GDLN was selected and another 10 attended from the World Bank to discuss the Strategy and the Direction of GDLN in the coming Future and how to start the process of forming a Global Alliance. The meeting was highly successful and a decision was made to form a Steering Committee consisting of 6 representatives from the 6 regions and 1 World Bank official to start the process of building Strategy and Structure to form GDLN International. From South Asia Region of the Bank only BRAC University of Bangladesh was selected to attend this Meeting.
