A session titled, “Cultural Diversity and Inclusiveness” was held on March 28, 2015 at Markuli Hall, BRAC University Savar Campus. Professor Afsan Chowdhury, a BRAC official and also Professor, BRACU, conducted the session with 20 facilitators from BRAC Learning Centre and other organizations. Also present during the session were the faculty members of the Ethics and Culture course, the Bangladesh Studies course, as well as members of the management staff.
The session was divided into three parts. Phase one of the session a game called ‘Quick Energizer Game’ that aims to demonstrate a concept of social mobility which says that ‘when you have no one there is mobility but if you form groups, mobility decreases’. This was followed by a talk and a series of videos that demonstrated the concepts of ‘diversity’, ‘difference’ and ‘discrimination’. Besides, under the facilitation of Professor Afsan Chowdhury, the students demonstrated the understanding and practice of these concepts through a series of activities.
The third and final phase of the session was conducted by Mr. Tarek Aziz, a former BRAC official. During the session an emotional game, named the Pinning Game, was played with the objective of revealing that people should not discriminate one another.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks and a celebration of anti-discrimination with the song ‘Give me freedom give me fire’.
