An MoU was recently signed between BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL) and Sightsavers, an international NGO, to train visually impaired learners from Sightsaver’s partner organization, Bangladesh Visually Impaired People’s Society (BIVPS), as a part of the project titled ‘Inclusive: Barrier Free Inclusive Society for Persons with Disabilities (Inclusive)’ which is co-financed by European Union and Sightsavers. A two-month course was customized for the project and it started on March 29, 2015 with 20 participants.
The course particularly aims to develop English language skills of people with communication disabilities due to visual impairment so that they are better equipped for mainstream job sectors, which has a growing demand of effective English communication. With this training, the participants are expected to gain accessibility and inclusion into the society and thus overcome their disability.
