On December 15, 2016, BRAC University “Art Society BRACU” organized an Alpona competition on the university premises, called “Bijoyer Rong Alpona Protijogita”. The competition was open for all the clubs of the institution. 6 clubs were, in the end, selected to draw their designs in front of the university. By hosting this competition, it was intended that students should realize the meaning of victory better. And that they did, by working together to commemorate the Victory Day, rather than competing against one another.
Deciding that the Alponas should be drawn at the night before December 16, BRACU Art Society called for designs from the clubs of the university. The artist teams of the 6 selected clubs, along with the volunteers of the event, sang the National Anthem together in order to begin the competition. The drawing commenced at 6:45PM, and continued till 9:45PM. The artists of the clubs—BRACU Entrepreneurship Development Forum (BUEDF), Adventure Club (BUAC), Communication and Language Club (BUCLC), Film Club (BUFC), Marketing Association (BUMA), and Monon—worked nonstop to create the Alpona of Victory. Their works gave life to the stony path.In this inter-club Alpona competition, where the clubs from BRACU competed against each other to produce the best Alpona in front of UB-2.
After thoroughly examining the designs, along with the help of Facebook “likes” making up 25 of the total score, the winners were announced on the 27th of December. BRAC University Monon, BRAC University Film Club and BRAC University Entrepreneurship Development Forum held the positions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd as winners of the event respectively. With this event, it was refreshing to see that the clubs working together for a greater cause while maintaining their friendly competition to celebrate this national victory day with the BRAC University family.
The competitors were honored to have Ms. Fahmida Saadia Rahman, advisor, BRACU Art Society and Mr. Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director, Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations, as guests. The whole time the competition went on; volunteers of Event Factory and BRACU Art Society were present, always ready to help the participants.
