On Thursday, July 21, 2016, a blended learning program on the topic of Economic Analysis of Investment Projects took place as a third part of the GDLN Distance Learning Seminar on Infrastructure and PPP. CSE Department faculty member, Annajiat Alim Rasel, undergraduate course coordinator and Lecturer III, has participated in the program. Economic analysis assists in analyzing project’s impact on society, and stakeholders, identify risks, determine whether to get on with the project or not, assess sustainability, impact, and potential contribution. Prof. Kye Woo Lee, from KDI School, Korea delivered the lecture. Prof. Jeong-Ho Kim, KDI School has kindly moderated the sessions and Ms. Hye June Kwon has coordinated the program. Participants were from Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Korea, etc. It also included people from WorldBank and SEAMEO INNOTECH, The SEAMEO Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology which is one of three SEAMEO regional centers hosted by the Government of the Philippines (GOP). The session ended with many interesting ideas, questions and answers including positive and negative externalities, e.g., the social value of good exceeding private value in case of technology spillover of an invention, education and technology, analyzing price/quantity of education and the social optimum, how project analysis should take these into consideration etc.
