Education has historically played a tremendous role in the growth of economies, said Brac University (BracU) Vice Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang on Thursday, 14 March 2019.
There was a time when China and Japan’s economic condition resembled Bangladesh’s one but they considered educational development as a significant driver of economic progress and the result is very much visible now, he said.
Vincent was addressing a town hall meeting with students of spring 2019 semester. The event was organised by the Office of Co-Curricular Activities (OCA) under the Office of Student Affairs at BracU’s Mohakhali campus auditorium.
He said that though being Bangladesh’s top ranked private university was a matter of pride, BracU was still lagging behind in international ranking.
“We should work hard to make our mark in the global map,” he said while talking of taking BracU to international standards.
Explaining why BracU was doing better than others, he said BracU did not just believe in CGPAs but also in free thinking, transparency and quality education.
Professor Vincent expected BracU to do great in the coming years. He said BracU was well known for Brac, as the latter was the world’s number one non-government organisation. He strongly believed that in the future Brac would be known for BracU.
The vice chancellor answered various queries by the students at the end of the programme.
Dilara Afroz Khan, assistant professor and the director of OCA, moderated the event.
