The Department of English and Humanities (ENH) of Brac University in collaboration with Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) organised a special talk by Dr. Sabreena Ahmed on Sunday, 10 March 2019 at the ENH seminar room of university building 2 of its Mohakhali campus.
Dr. Ahmed who is an Assistant Professor of the Department of ENH, BracU delivered a presentation on her paper titled “Using Focused Free writing to Stimulate Ideas and Foster Critical Thinking during Pre writing”.
She described how the technique of focused free writing and follow up discussions can be used to help ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students to think critically about a topic and to generate ideas to support their arguments in a composition course.
Dr. Ahmed completed her Ph.D. in TESL from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2018.
Professor Firdous Azim, chairperson of the Dept of ENH along with other faculty members and students were present in the talk. The executive committee members of BELTA were present at the event and informed that they look forward to such collaboration with ENH in future.
