Mr. Zahid Maleque, Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has visited Urban Academic Site of Diploma in Midwifery Education programme of JPGSPH, BRAC University on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 while he was attending the dissemination meeting at OGSB, Mirpur, Dhaka.
National Professor Dr Shahla Khatun, Chairman, OGSB Hospital & IRCH; Prof. Rowshan Ara Begum, President OGSB; Dr. Jahir Uddin Ahmed, Head of Midwifery Education Programme and Project Director were present during the visit of the Honorable State Minister. Students from the Diploma in Midwifery Education have demonstrated few critical skills learnt and practiced by them during their study in the course. The Diploma in Midwifery education with 155 credits is a three-year academic program which follows a competency-based curriculum compliant with the standards of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and accredited and approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC). Dr. Jahir Uddin Ahmed spoke in the dissemination meeting on the midwifery education programme and dream of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed founder and Chair person of BRAC and BRAC University to put two midwives in each union of the hard to reach and underserved areas of the country.
JPGSPH, BRACU has been implementing the Developing Midwives Project since 2012 with a vision to reduce the maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in Bangladesh. This project is funded by the UK Aid from the UK government.
