The Centre of Excellence- Universal Health Coverage organized a series of policy dialogues with relevant stakeholders at the district level, with the financial help of World Bank. Initially, it was decided to hold dialogues at Sylhet, Barisal and Khulna as one each from low, medium and high performing districts as per the health indicators. The dialogues took place through out August.
The objective of the dialogues is to elicit perception of the stakeholders at the grassroots on:
1) Current scenario of the health systems: successes, gaps and challenges
2l Where we want to go from here and how (realistic targets)
3) Role of UHC in this journey: what UHC means for Bangladesh and what are its different components
Key issues that discussed in the dialogue are:
i) Access, scale and quality of services (supply and demand side perspectives)
ii) Health system responsiveness
iii) Shortage and inequitable distribution of HRH
iv) Health financing, out-of-pocket expenditure and health insurance
v) UHC.
The meetings were well represented with attendance of the divisional commissioner, the assistant
commissioner at all three dialogues; with the addition of other government representatives, academics,
health care professionals and NGO representatives.
