The Professional Skills Training Centre at the James P Grant School of Public Health organised a seminar on “Understanding dengue transmission through Ecohealth Approach in Dhaka”' on 20th July 2016. The seminar was conducted by Dr Parnali Dhar Chowdhury, Research Awardee in Food, Environment and Health division, IDRC.
During the seminar, Dr Chowdhury highlighted how Bangladesh has remained hyperendemic for dengue since 2000, affected by unprecedented urban growth, overcrowding, poverty, and health inequalities. Considering the complexities involved with dengue transmission, she argued that understanding transmission requires encapsulating different disciplinary knowledge as well as non-academic knowledge. She also stressed on the fact that a persistently high rate of dengue infection in Dhaka is being influenced by the lack of knowledge and awareness of the eco-bio-social factors.
