The Professional Skills Training Centre organised a seminar on 'Underutilization of maternal screening - a missed opportunity for quality antenatal care' on 23rd June. The seminar was delivered by Dr Winny Koster, Medical Anthropologist, University of Amsterdam.
Dr Koster talked about diagnostic screening, an under-researched but crucial component of antenatal care. She also stressed that practices related to insufficient antenatal testing have to be understood from the realities of the different primary stakeholders: the pregnant women and their families, midwives, and laboratory personnel. Dr Koster also mentioned the recommendations for different levels of the health system which are presently being implemented at some of the health facilities and discussed at ministerial level.
