I am very pleased to welcome Professor Manfred Max Bergman as a visiting professor to Brac University. Professor Bergman (Cambridge PhD) holds the Chair of Social Research and Methodology in the Department of Sociology of the University of Basel. A member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation, Max is the president of the Swiss Academic Society for Environmental Research and Ecology. As one of the world’s leaders on research methodology in the social and health sciences, Max has convincingly argued that our paradigmatic view of qualitative and quantitative research must be replaced. He has therefore designed new survey instruments, developed qualitative data collections, and supervised data analysis and findings integration. His publications in these exciting fields have introduced innovative approaches to conceptualizing and conducting empirical research. As a Visiting Professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Max brings to Brac University a unique expertise on the mixed methods that he has applied to peer-assessment, training opportunities, vocational education, sustainable business, and corporate responsibility. He will lead with Prof. Philippe Forêt the Joint Research Group on Social Transitions, which connects Brac University to the prestigious University of Basel.
