The Counseling Unit of BRAC University is going to observe the ‘World Mental Health Day 2016’ by hosting series of programs throughout this month of October. 10th October, the official mental health day will be celebrated with awareness campaign at the Mohakhali campus with ribbon binding and a video presentation on Counseling and mental health service. On 20th October, there will be a seminar on this year’s theme ‘Dignity in Mental Health- Psychological and Mental Health First Aid for All’ at BRAC Centre Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka. On 29th of this month, a special awareness campaign and workshops on various mental health issues will be organized at the Savar residential campus throughout the day.
The seminar which will be held in collaboration with the Psychosocial Counseling Unit of BIED, BRAC University on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The seminar will be inaugurated by Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University with an opening speech discussing the significance of mental health well-being and the role the Counseling Units of BRAC University play in that regard. The keynote speaker of the seminar Dr. Mehtab Khanam, Professor, Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, University of Dhaka, will shed light on the importance of mental health care throughout the life span in her speech and will explain and moderate an interactive discussion on Counseling after a video presentation of an actual counseling session.
Mr. Kafil Uddin Kaiya, Project Director, ECD, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, Director (Planning and Development), Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education will also be present at the seminar as guests. There will be a Q&A session and presentations on various mental health services provided by the organizers as well.
