Tens of thousands joined the 3rd online BRAC University Insider show – “Shape your future with BRAC University” on 12 March, 2022. The program seeks to promote BRAC University among prospective students with a special focus on General Education, co-curricular activities and Student Life.
The programme featured Mr. Chamak Hasan, YouTuber, author, artist and R&D engineer of Boston Scientific, was the special guest. The programme was hosted by
Dr. David Dowland, Registrar; Professor Fuad Hasan Mallik, Dean of the School of Architecture and Design; Dr. Samia Huq, Dean of General Education; Dr. Sayem Hossain, Assistant Professor of BRAC Business School; and Nafis Mostofa, an alumnus of BRAC University and Chairman and CEO of Rose Tech Solution Ltd.
Dr. David Dowland focused on the special characteristics of BRAC University including its international reach, network, high quality of faculty, residential semester, scholarships, online platform buX, club activities, the new campus and alumni success.
“We want to help our students develop their skills and other aptitudes to cope with the huge social and technological changes – of the 4th industrial revolution ’he said.
“They need versatility, the ability to improvise, to think critically, creatively, and resourcefully. We want them to be the graduates that employers want and to have fulfilling lives. We’re conscious of our duty to help make the country and the region more prosperous and to have social impact,” he added. Dr. Dowland also celebrated the contribution of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed and BRAC to the world.
Dr. Samia Huq explained the importance of General Education. General Education courses helps the students understand who we are, helps them understand our community where we live, who we live with, and establish better understanding and relationship between our communities,” she said. Dr. Huq also shared some of the features of the Residential Semester of BRAC University. “The Residential Semester is a flagship program of BRAC University. It's a unique offering and also the focal point of general education,” she said. ‘Residential Semester enables experiential learning, civic engagement, field visits, and working with BRAC, the world's largest NGO with 50 years of experience in different social development, she added.
Business entrepreneur and alumnus, Nafis Mostofa, was nostalgic when asked about Residential Semester. He said BRAC University played a vital role in his life and offers a lot of opportunities for students. “When I got admitted at BRAC University, my dream was to get a job after completing my graduation, but when I started to move on, I got to know many opportunities here, such as extracurricular activities, hackathons, and several competitive competitions. That built my self-confidence,” said Mostofa.
“Our job does not end within the classroom but also extends beyond the classroom, and we are real influencers of minds,” said Dr. Sayem Hossain.
Mr. Chamak Hasan said, “I was inspired to teach mathematics while working with Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad. When working with the students, I realized that I could understand where they lost their concentration. It inspired me a lot. Then I started making videos and writing books for the background story of particular ideas that will help students have an understanding with a lot of joy.”
