The 9th Convocation of BRAC University took place on Thursday at the Army Stadium, Dhaka Cantonment. Md. Abdul Hamid, President, People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor, BRAC University, presided over the convocation ceremony. In his speech, the President congratulated the fresh graduates and appreciated BRAC University’s aim of preparing future leaders by combining their knowledge with social engagement for sustainable development.
Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Special Guest of the event, asserted that, BRAC University has set an example by maintaining rules and regulations of the government and delivering quality education.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzman delivered the Convocation speech as Convocation Speaker. In his inspiring speech, Professor Anisuzzaman expressed his views about holistic approach to education. He indicated that knowledge should enlighten one’s conscience and encourage righteousness which was clearly present in our history where students were always outspoken for the cause of justice and peace.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, BRAC University, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG and Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb were present at this auspicious occasion along with the members of the Board of Trustees, Syndicate, Academic Council as well as other distinguished guests.
A total of 1495 students from various academic disciplines joined the ranks of BRAC University graduates. Hon’ble President awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal to Shirleen Manzur from the department of Social Science & Economics (ESS) for undergraduate programs and Zubaida Marufee Islam from the department of Mathematics & Natural Sciences (MNS) for postgraduate programs for their outstanding academic results as well as all-round contribution and performance during their period of study at BRAC University.
