BRAC University (BRACU) on Tuesday, 3 April 2018, celebrated Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, marking the upcoming Bangla New Year 1425 at its Mohakhali campus in the capital.
Organised by the Office of Co-curricular Activities (OCA) with the assistance of student clubs, the daylong celebrations started with a fair at the Prangan cafeteria alongside in some spots outside the auditorium in the morning.
It showcased dresses, jewellery such as glass bangles and those made of clay, mehendi application, parrot astrology, bioscope and balloon popping with an airgun.
There were also local food such as snacks, fuchka, chotpoti and Panta Ilish. Students thronged the fair donning traditional outfits of red and white. Later there was a discussion at the auditorium, which bore a festive look.
Registrar Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (Retd) congratulated the OCA and students for the arrangement. Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, director of the BRAC Institute of Languages, and other senior officials were present. The celebrations ended with cultural program.
