Brac University organized a webinar on Thursday, 20 August, 2020, remembering the 45th death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose voice and vision guided the people of Bangladesh to fight for independence in 1971. A distinguished panel of speakers attended this webinar in solidarity to celebrate the life of Bangabandhu and discuss his role in liberating the Nation from oppression.
In the early morning of 15 August, 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated at his personal residence in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Most of his family members and some of his acquaintances were also murdered that night.
The participants of the webinar paid homage to Bangabandhu and discussed how the Father of the Nation through his ideology and lifelong work continues to make significant impact on Bangladeshi people.
Professor Vincent Chang, PhD, Vice-Chancellor, Brac University, chaired the webinar. Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Chairman, Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), attended the webinar as the Chief Guest and Ms. Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BoT), Brac University, attended as Special Guest.
Professor Zainab Faruqui Ali, PhD, Chairperson, Department of Architecture, Brac University, moderated the webinar. Professor Fuad H. Mallick, PhD, Dean, School of Architecture and Design, Brac University, Professor Samia Huq, PhD, Dean, School of General Education, Brac University, Professor Syed M Hashemi, PhD, Professor, School of General Education, Brac University, also attended the panel discussion.
“Throughout his life, Bangabandhu had a people-centered and inspiring personality. It is very necessary for everyone to follow his ideology to protect the hard-earned independence” said Mr Sheikh Kabir Hossain. “It is time to take inspiration from his life to take this country forward.”
“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had dedicated himself in building a world class education system after the independence. His thought and ideology also influenced the founder of BRAC, late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG” said Ms. Tamara Hasan Abed.
“Bangabandhu, through his ideology and work, will continue to inspire Bangladeshi people. To facilitate his spirit, Brac University will emerge as a world class university on the global map of which the country can be proud of” said Brac University Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang. “Brac University is will continue to pursue excellence in the field of higher education to continue his legacy”, he added.
