Anata Choudhury (in the middle), an undergraduate student of BRAC University, has won a gold medal on being adjudged the champion in men’s chess at Bangabandhu Inter University Sports Championship. The competition took place from 11 to 14 September, 2022 on the premises of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). The tournament was participated by students from 42 universities from around the country. Anata played 8 rounds of Swiss chess with standard time settings.
Mesbah Uddin, Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, presented awards to the winners and encouraged youths to engage in such extracurricular activities. Professor Tanweer Hasan, vice-chancellor of the IUB, Syed Shahabuddin Shamim, general secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation, and Moniruzzaman, Head of Audit of Polar Ice Cream, one of the event’s sponsors, were also present.
Currently, Anata is in his 9th semester for attaining a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Having a FIDE (International Chess Federation) rating of 2,176, he is an active member of BRAC University Chess Club. This year he was a part of a BRAC University team which came in first in a “7th NDCC National Chess Carnival” organized by Notre Dame Chess Club. Anata expressed great joy at his achievement and stated that he was delighted to be able to represent BRAC University.
