The James P. Grant School of Public Health (JPG-SPH) of BU started its operation on September 8, 2004 with the nomination of Dr. A M R Chowdhury as its Dean and Dr. Demissie Habte as the International Director.
Dr A M R Chowdhury, PhD, studied in the University of Dhaka, London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Besides being a Deputy Executive Director of BRAC he has held academic appointments as a MacArthur Fellow at Harvard University, Adjunct Faculty at the School for International Training in Vermont, USA and Visiting Professor at the Mailman School of Public Health in Columbia University, New York City, USA. As a committed researcher Dr. Mushtaque has numerous international publications to his credit in the areas of health, education, poverty alleviation, environment, and natural disasters.
Dr. Demissie Habte, MD is a World Bank employee in Washington. He has studied in Ethiopia, The American University in Beirut, Cornell Medical Center, New York and Stanford University in USA. Prior to joining the World Bank, Dr. Habte had served ICDDR, B in Dhaka as the Director. He has also held the position of a Dean in the faculty of Medicine and a Chairman in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health of the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He is a fellow of the London school of Hygiene and has the credit of over fifty papers in peer-reviewed journals on health issues.
