Major General (Retired) Muhammad Sahool Afzal, awc, psc has been appointed the Registrar of BRAC University with effect from 3 November 2001. MG Afzal graduated from the Pakistan Military Academy in 1969. He obtained a first class in Masters in Defense Studies. He graduated from the Army War College, USA where his overall performance was assessed as 'Outstanding' and his Research Paper was nominated for the highest writing award. He completed the International Defense Management Course at the Naval Postgraduate School, USA. MG Afzal spent a significant portion of his long career in the Army in academic related appointments. As a faculty member and later as the Commandant of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) he was involved in the planning and conduct of the BA/BSc programs under Chittagong University. As the Chief Instructor at the Defense Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC) he was responsible for designing and conducting the Masters program in Defense Studies under National University. In the same capacity he taught Command & Leadership and Defense Management Courses. A number of his articles were published in different military journals in Bangladesh. He was deeply involved with the publications of the BMA and the DSCSC journals. As the leader of a joint army, navy and airforce team, he successfully guided the team in drafting the Joint Warfare Doctrine for the Armed Forces of Bangladesh. MG Afzal retired voluntarily from the Army in October 1998. His last appointment in the Army was General Officer Commanding (GOC) of an Infantry Division. He joined BRAC as a Director in November 1998. As the Director Information Technology (IT) he formulated the IT Strategy for BRAC. He was given the responsibility of the Project Head of BRAC University in 1999. As the Project Head he held meetings at different levels of the Government both at the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education till BRAC University received approval in March 2001. MG Afzal was the founder Senior Vice-President of Mainamati Golf Club and was also the Vice-President of the Bhatiary Golf Club.
